New Year New Attitude

“The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change his future by merely changing his attitude.” Oprah Winfrey

Two soldiers on active duty were making their way to a military post in a scorching desert. The temperatures soared and dehydrated they became. This land was unfamiliar to them, unbeknownst to them was the fact that they were walking on a minefield. The region they found themselves in had experienced brutal wars and as a result, the local desert tribe had planted mines to keep enemies away. Suddenly the soldier upfront stepped on one and his fate was sealed, the second soldier was in no better situation as he realized that he had stepped on a mine as well. He couldn’t lift his foot and his only chance of survival was by keeping his foot planted on the mine. With no water to quench his thirst and exhaustion creeping in, he became determined to stand for as long as he could. Two days later he still stood at the same spot, it became apparent that he would either die from the mine exploding or from thirst. Either way, it seemed that his fate was sealed. As his last resort, the soldier attempts jumping away from the mine, he knew that he would possibly lose his limbs but he had to try something. He took a leap of faith and went for it. To his surprise, there was no explosion. Astounded he proceeded to check on the mine only to find that he had stepped on an aluminum can.

The story teaches us about the hurdles we experience in everyday life. Just like the soldier we get comfortable with where we find ourselves in life and are too afraid to move on just in case things don’t work out and it blows up in our face. One sure way to propel us out of this cycle is the practice of having a positive attitude. In the case of the soldier, it is not until he changed his attitude and decided to jump. He was needlessly stuck because he was negative and could not see a way out which wasn`t death. But the power of having a positive attitude saved his life.

People often claim that a positive attitude doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend having it daily. Your attitude will make or break you; it is literally up to you to choose what mindset you want to dwell in. Our world view is dictated by our thoughts, and those that choose to focus on the positive often end up experience a positive outcome.

The act of caregiving is at the heart of a Home Care business. Being a caregiver is more than a profession, it is an act of kindness. We do understand that caregivers face many challenges in their day-to-day activities, it is therefore recommended that you adopt a mindset of positive thinking in your day-to-day activities. Having a positive attitude will change how you view your job. You are going to go from feeling overwhelmed by your daily tasks to feeling content with providing quality care and impacting someone’s life.

As a caregiver, you work as the bridge between the family and the client you are taking care of and the bridge between the client and the Home Care business. You play the most important role in the Home Care business and for that, your contribution is appreciated. I would urge you to practice the art of positive thinking moving forward. Little by little, step by step you will begin to notice changes in your life, they may be subtle at first but over time they’ll result in something bigger.

Let 2021 be the year you transform your thinking and break away from bad habits or thoughts that inhibit your progress.
