Five qualities to look for in a good Caregiver

“The closest thing to being cared for is to care for someone else.” Carson McCullers

Caregivers should be celebrated at every opportunity we get. Their presence directly impacts the lives of so many people. For one, it impacts the person they are giving care to and their presence also impacts the family members/loved ones. Being a caregiver is not a get rich quick scheme, rather it is a role that requires one to be genuinely compassionate about those in need of care. At Humble Home Care Services, we go through a thorough process in finding caregivers who have the following qualities:

  • Disciplined

Discipline is the practice of obedience. A caregiver who is disciplined will abide by the rules and regulations of the company. They will adhere to all the safety practices and most importantly, you can count on them to work on their responsibilities diligently.

  • Compassionate

As mentioned earlier, being a caregiver requires one to be compassionate. A caregiver that works for the sole purpose of improving/helping someone else does it from a place of compassion. A caregiver who lacks compassion will soon find it difficult to give care, which will affect their overall job performance.

  • Punctuality

An individual that can keep time and show up when expected will gain the respect of those he/she deals with. Being punctual ensures that all the caregiver’s responsibilities are performed in a timely manner and not rushed.

  • Professionalism

Being a professional means having the competence or skills that are expected in your field. We consider caregivers that dress in the appropriate work attire, show up on time, and are up to date on all their required training to be professionals.

  • Communication

Having effective communication within an organization is key to its success. It essential that all caregivers communicate consistently and in a timely manner. Part of the responsibility of being a caregiver is monitoring the client and taking notes. Therefore, it is essential that a caregiver communicates by notifying the nurse in case of any abrupt changes.
